Google, in collaboration with JBL, is developing a new Android TV-Powered Soundbar that features Google Assistant for voice search and control. Dubbed the JBL Link Bar, this hybrid soundbar will be the newest addition to voice-activated JBL Link speaker series. By combining JBL’s consumer audio expertise and Android TV’s plethora of content, Google is developing a smarter way for you to watch your favorite video content with finest audio experience.

The JBL Link Bar would come with two integrated microphones, far-field voice recognition and could be used as a standalone smart speaker like Google Home or Amazon Echo, when TV is switched off. Just say “Hey Google,” to control media and YouTube, and other online content hands-free through the Android TV box. Each unit has four LED lights behind the front grille to show the current status of the soundbar.

Furthermore, Android TV-Powered Soundbar can turn any ordinary TV into a Smart TV and stream 4K HDR content. Whether you choose to control the soundbar through onboard buttons atop the device, or use voice commands, or toggle using its remote control, the Link Bar would respond equally well. And did we tell you, it would be compatible with older TVs as well?

The JBL Link Bar will feature three HDMI-in ports to connect game consoles, Blu-ray players and other external multimedia devices.  JBL will also be selling a separate subwoofer to enjoy multi-room audio in combination with other Google Home speakers, or speakers powered by Chromecast Audio dongle.

Google will be presenting the JBL Link Bar at the Google I/O developer conference in Mountain View, California. Availability and pricing details for the Android TV-powered soundbar will be announced later this year.
