The form of a chair plays a crucial role in its visual impact, comfort level, and ergonomic support. Chairs are usually designed for specific purposes and have distinct forms tailored to facilitate their respective functions. A well-designed form just like the Grace Lounge Chair by Belgium-based designer Daniel Devadder not only catches the eye but also creates a sense of uniqueness, and contributes to the overall aesthetics of the space. Inspired by nature, the chair hides its complexity behind its elegant and flawless forms.

Its tripod-like form factor makes it a sculptural furniture piece that translates emotions and feelings. Furthermore, the chair design follows the approach that “form doesn’t and shouldn’t always follow function, but rather should be able to follow emotion.”

As you move around the chair, new things come into view, changing how you understand what you see. Some may see a bird, a plant, or even imagine a ghost. This adds a unique personality and soul to the chair design. The interpretation of the Grace lounge chair changes from person to person, from feeling to feeling, creating a unique experience every time.

The main structure of the chair is 3D printed from a material called Tusk SolidGrey3000 which combines a high degree of stiffness with high impact resistance and is available at Materialise. The structure is covered with high-resilience foam from the outside and lastly, Kvadrat fabric is used for upholstery, making it a comfy and stylish piece.

The Grace Lounge Chair can be used in different spaces from a hotel to a living room in a family home. The design is so impressive that even when it is not in use, it serves as a kind of sculpture that elevates any interior decor style. It is the winner of the 2023 Gold A’ Design Award and iF Design Award as well as received many other accolades last year.
