“At the end it is about making well-designed products affordable and available to people,” said Friso Wiersma, a lead designers at IKEA, in an interview with me a few months back. IKEA takes its ‘affordable’ approach to the next level with the introduction of the cheapest gaming chair that will cost $77, ten times less than the Vantum gaming chairs recently unveiled by Herman Miller in partnership with Logitech.

Dubbed Huvudspelare the IKEA’s gaming chair isn’t as classy or glossy as one would expect a gaming furniture to be, but it comes at a bargain basement and that’s the biggest selling point IKEA capitalizes on.

The Swedish brand knows pretty well that there are thousands of desperate and hardcore gamers who may not be able to afford thousand bucks on gaming chairs in the market and will come running to IKEA stores for a piece costing less than $100.

There is not much to boast about the colors as IKEAS’s cheapest gaming chair comes in black finish while the tires and arm frame are painted red. To compensate with the lackluster look, IKEA has incorporated two major features in the chair.

As one pulls the lever out, you can unlock the chair tilt function allowing you to lean back and forth while taking little breaks between intensive gaming. IKEA mentions that the user can adapt the resistance of the Huvudspelare chair to their movements and weight. Thanks to the built-in tilt tension knob that lets you have a more relaxing sitting and tilting experience.

Another major mechanism of the chair is the height adjustment lever. It lets you adjust the height of the chair to a maximum of 28-inches and a minimum of 24-inches. During intensive gaming hours, the backrest gives you good lumbar support while the mesh net allows air to circulate around your back keeping you cool and comfortable for longer duration.

The chair is poised on safety wheels that incorporate a pressure-sensitive brake mechanism thus prevents the chair from moving when you stand up. As for the armrests, they are made out of plastic while seat is made of 100-percent polyester.

Whatever your thoughts might be on the product, but even you’d admit that the price seems pretty fair for what you get out of this IKEA chair.
