Unveiled in 2021, Hyundai’s STARIA camper van was primarily launched for the South Korean market, but the company has now revealed plans to bring it to the Western market. Following up on the same, Hyundai has previewed the new Staria Camper concept at the 2026 CMT camper and travel show in Stuttgart, Germany.

Re-designed with the European market in mind, the concept features an integrated pop-up roof, solar panels, and smart living solutions for off-grid travel. The showcase aims to figure out user interest in the Staria camper, get feedback from Western RV enthusiasts, and share possibilities about the production model.

The main highlight of the Staria camper van is the power-operated pop-up roof, which creates an open living space and improves access to the kitchen area. The pop-up roof is installed creatively to help reduce wind noise and buffeting while driving. Finished in the same color and material as the body, the roof can be raised or lowered easily with the touch of a button.

Intended for extended off-grid stays, the pop-up roof comes integrated with a 520W lightweight composite solar panel that can generate up to 2.6 kWh of electricity per day, based on an average of five hours of sunlight per day. The onboard electric system is capable of powering onboard features such as a 36-litre refrigerator, portable shower, and temperature control system for the cabin.

The interior space looks modern and bright in a simple combination of white and black. The kitchen lies to one side of the house and comes with a sink and a fridge integrated into the countertop. You can also find a folding table nearby, overlooking a window that can be used for dining and working as well. The inclusion of two screens onboard allows inhabitants to control all the integrated features easily.

The Staria camper concept also includes an electronically adjustable smart glass in the rear of the cabin. It comes with a dedicated touchscreen module that allows you to adjust the transparency and shading levels of the glass easily to meet different privacy needs. The smart glass is said to provide better UV, thermal, and acoustic insulation than standard automotive glass.

Hyundai says the potential production version of the Staria camper would be based on Staria Electric for the European market. This specific van features a 160 kW (218 PS) front-wheel-drive electric powertrain that delivers great performance with low noise and vibration levels. Furthermore, it comes with an 800-volt high-voltage architecture that enables DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes under optimal conditions.

The camper van even includes structural front and rear suspension enhancements along with additional sound-absorbing materials for enhanced ride comfort. Staria Electric with an 84 kWh battery offers an estimated WLTP driving range of up to 400km on a single charge, which puts it straight in competition with popular electric camper vans on the market.

As clarified by New Atlas, now it is not a great MPV with the changed design, but a perfect 4-person camper van with a folding bed in the cabin and an electric pop-up roof. There are no exact details about the pricing and availability yet.
