Artificial intelligence is restructuring the way we learn. The world stands divided on the consumption and use of AI in early education, but that isn’t stopping tech companies from innovating. At the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, China, iFLYTEK has launched a new AI-powered blackboard, you can see in action below.
Conceived as a new-age digital teaching tool, the smartboard, as seen in an early conference booth demonstration video that has quickly gone viral, comprises two boards. While one is clearly a digital board, the second on the far side of the frame seems like a traditional blackboard, which is somehow synced with the digital board. So, what you write on the latter appears on the former in real time.
iFLYTEK is not new to redefining classroom teaching. The company has already created the Spark Smart AI Blackboard as an intelligent, digital teaching assistant with generative AI integration. iFLYTEK’s Tongchuang AI Blackboard is starkly different.
It is designed to transform handwritten input into interactive visuals. In the 90-second-odd video from WAIC 2026, the presenter can be seen writing mathematical equations on the board, which are instantly – by merely highlighting them – presented as an interactive graph.
The presenter is seen writing the equation y = x² – 3 (a straight line) casually as you would on a traditional blackboard, and then the board instantly converts the corresponding parabola graph. In the second demo, she sketches a rough cube shape, and the flat drawing is in real time replicated as a rotatable 3D geometry model complete with labeled angles, edges, areas, and volumes.
This demonstration video of the interactive smartboard designed by iFLYTEK is unlike anything we have seen in active classrooms and those that already have interactive boards in them. Given how futuristic it appears and how it generates summaries on the fly, if and when this technology reaches classrooms, the math lessons and science equations could look very different. But which countries will adopt this new form of learning beyond mainland China remains a point of discussion for now.
To ensure the new AI blackboard is easy to adapt with the existing classroom systems, the company has purposely chosen to give it a familiar black colored appearance. Beyond the aesthetic, the AI-powered smartboard is also engineered to mimic the natural handwriting feel of a blackboard. However, you are using a specially designed stylus instead of chalk.
