IKEA launched 21 Matter-compatible gadgets last year, signaling its fast venture into the smart home category, while GÖMPYSSLING motion-sensor lights for wardrobes showed the brand’s commitment to simple yet useful household accessories. Continuing with the latter approach, IKEA has launched the new Ankarlägg motion-sensor nightlight, which automatically lights up when you approach. The light can help light up dark nooks of your home, without making any changes in the main electrical system.
Designed by Bruno Adrien Aguirre, the Ankarlägg nightlight is meant to be used directly on the wall. It comes in a flat standard bulb shape for an intriguing aesthetic, which would definitely catch the eye when lit up. When turned off, it still provides a minimalist look.
The light runs on two AAA batteries, so you can freely mount it anywhere using double-sided adhesive pad. IKEA says you can mount them in a hallway or bedroom, along the stairs, or even inside a wardrobe. Without the hassle of plugging or wiring.
The nightlight turns on when the sensor detects movement within three meters. Each light activates only in the dark to save battery and turns off after 30 seconds of no movement. There is a button on its lower end to turn it on/off, while you need to open a screw to insert batteries. IKEA has revealed no details on the battery life, but we presume the batteries should last a few months before requiring replacement.

As reported by Notebookcheck, the IKEA Ankarlägg motion-sensor nightlight is now available in European countries, including France and Sweden, for €3 (about $3.5). It is not confirmed whether it will be available in more markets, but we hope it will be made available globally soon.
