The summer season becomes a survival quest for birds and wildlife due to a shortage of water. But you can make a noble contribution by placing a birdbath in your garden, backyard, balcony, or terrace for your feathered friends and small local wildlife. If you are a fan of creating fun projects, turn your old lamp into a DIY upcycled lamp birdbath and watch your avian guests arrive to quench their thirst and take a dip.
It is always cheaper and more fun to build a birdbath at home rather than buy a costly birdbath from a store. Simply take out an old lighting lamp, epoxy, spray paint, and watch it transform into a functional garden art piece.
Once the birds spot it, they’ll visit often, and you’ll get to witness their fluttering splash and soothing birdsongs in no time. Birds & Blooms tells you to convert your old lighting décor into a luxe birdbath in five steps. We have further broken it down; let’s dive into the tutorial.
Materials You’ll Need:
- Old lamp
- Painter’s tape
- Shallow and wide bowl

How To DIY Upcycled DIY Lamp Birdbath
- Pull through the lamp housing, remove the lampshade support and socket, and cut the cord from both ends
- Add a ceiling light canopy to the top of the lamp to create a support for the bowl. The hole in the ceiling canopy makes attachment easy using the screw and nut that the lamp already has
- Spray paint the lamp before attaching the bowl. Before painting, wash the lamp to remove dust and dry it properly. Apply several light coats of paint for a quick transformation
- Wait until the paint is completely dry. Take epoxy and glue the bowl to the circular canopy edge. Keep in mind to glue the center of the bowl to the canopy edge to avoid titled bowl placement that might trip over. You can use a marker to mark the center of the bowl for accuracy
- Find the perfect spot in your garden or backyard and fill the DIY upcycled lamp birdbath up with water
Your luxe birdbath is all ready to welcome feathered friends. Once a few birds begin to use the birdbath, others will join in as well, and very soon, your backyard will turn into a private oasis for birdbath and hydration.
When placing the DIY upcycled lamp birdbath, choose a spot with light shade and sunlight with adequate foliage. A natural environment will appear less scary compared to an open place prone to attacks.
