Dagenham-based architect James Furzer, has come up with the most innovative and creative way to help city’s homeless people. He has created the Floating pods that will provide shelter to homeless people. The “Home for the Homeless” floating pods are still in concept phase but the design has won first prize in Fakro’s sixth annual Space for New Vision competition.

According to Furzer, the temporary shelter for homeless will be made from untreated plywood and held up in mid-air with the help of steel frames. The floating pods are not some luxury pods; they are designed to fulfill the basic need i.e. a proper insulated place for sound sleep. Moreover, external ladders will not hinder in movement to pedestrians.

The Floating pods can be easily installed on sides of the buildings, creating ample of space for people to walk through the sidewalks. These pods will be equipped with bed and mattress, large windows for light, solar panels to provide electricity.

Furzer hopes to convert the project soon into reality and donate it to a homeless charity. Now, the only question arises is how many buildings will be willing to provide their sidewalls for the floating pods.
