Then came the flurry of apps and other noteworthy technologies such as remote controlling, NFCs, cameras and even face recognition software. And, now smartphones pose as ‘literal’ keys to our homes and apartments! How so, you ask? Well, a company named Kwikset has come up with a smart lock system termed as Kevo. This battery-powered lock can be opened traditionally with a metal key or can be accessed wirelessly via a specialized smartphone app to unlock your home’s doors.

Available for only Apple iPhones, the ambit doesn’t just stop with opening your locked doors with a smartphone software. The so-called digital ‘key’ can also be shared with other iPhones, thus making the whole scope convenient for a family unit, rather than just a person. However, keeping safety in mind, this digital key is temporary in nature, and hence turns invalid after a specific time period. So, at the of the day, the advanced Kevo is all about ‘digitalizing’ your home front with smart, fool-proof applications that are easy to access and are also secure than conventional locking mechanisms.
