Kitchen is one of the most important part of a home, and often people design their kitchen either with hardwood, plywood, granite, tiles or some kind of plastic laminate. All such materials have advantages and some restrictions for designers to explore new design ideas. However, LG Hausys has created a substantial surface material dubbed Hi-Macs for forming attractive, functional and strong elements in houses. On the same lines Aix-en-Provence-based designer Charlotte Raynaud has designed a kitchen island named Le Baou. It is a kitchen centrepiece inspired by jagged lines of rock and fabricated by Felix Hegenbart SARL. This monolith-like structure contrasts the wooden wall and appears like it has been carved from a huge piece of rock.

Le Baou is a great illustration for recognizing visual and other designing benefits of this unique hard surface material. The induction hob and dishwasher are smartly incorporated into this huge block, while the cupboards in the back, house other appliances. Electric drawers are installed to avoid the use of handles and avail optimum comfort as well as a sophisticated look. Each piece of Le Baou kitchen island is precisely cut at an angle so that all sides fit perfectly and give it a crystal-like look.

Many famous celebrities have used this solid surface material in designing kitchen, bathroom or furniture pieces for their homes. Charlotte said that exceptional properties of Hi-Macs open various possibilities for molding it into personalized shapes. For the composition; bauxite stone powder, acrylic resin, and natural pigments are combined to serve as a non-porous, smooth and stunning hard surface that perfectly meets standards of aesthetics, fabrication, functionality and hygiene.

Thermal cure techniques are used to form it into a 3-dimensional structure that has properties of a stone or wood. This damp-resistant material is easy to clean, maintain and repair. It is the first solid surface that received the official European Technical Approval (ETA) for façades.

As it appears in the pictures below, it is a great alternative, adding attractive and sturdy modern objects in commercial, residential and public space architecture projects. Hi-Macs come with a 15-year warranty for products fabricated by a Quality Club member, so contact the firm itself or a professional craftsman.
