Barcelona-based designer Christopher Muscat Azzopardi of Base Forge has created a levitating lamp named Lightest, which changes colors and induces electricity without cables. The base of the lamp is integrated with magnets to ensure it floats in the air without falling. Although it is meant to be stationary, but with a little spin it keeps rotating for hours due to lack of friction.

Handmade in Barcelona, the levitating lamp comprises recycled wood base and quality parts for maximum performance and durability. Its lampshade can be detached, allowing people to create customized 3D printed lampshades out of any material.

The package containing the lamp comes bundled with a radio remote to wirelessly turn it on/off or change color as well as brightness of the lighting fixture. Besides all that, its illuminating base can also levitate and make other small objects glow (such as vases, flower pots, etc.), providing endless home decor possibilities.

The floating lamp can be directly powered through main supply. However, the built-in battery in its base allows you to take the lamp anywhere you want special lighting. The compact lighting fixture comes in dimensions 150 x 150 x 45mm and weighs only 600 grams. The lightest lamp produces 120 lumens of maximum brightness and the battery lasts up to six-hours on a single charge.

Currently, the Lightest is seeking funds on Kickstarter. If you want this levitating lamp, then back the project with a minimum of €140 (approx. US $155). Moreover, if you want to levitate sculptures, coffee cups and other objects weighing up to 450 grams, you can back the maker kit for only €120 (Approx. $133). It includes a base and magnets for levitating small things.
