Louis Vuitton has a stylish luggage line with the monogrammed logo and classic leather look. These LV suitcases and trunks have been a luxury item for ages now. Marking the tenth anniversary of its Horizon suitcase, Louis Vuitton has added its first-ever aluminum suitcase to that fleet, possibly taking on Rimowa. The new Horizon Aluminium is not just a suitcase, but part haute couture, an expression of travel.

Created with industrial designer Marc Newson, who was recently behind Ferrari’s Luce EV, the Louis Vuitton Horizon Aluminium turns a familiar travel essential into a finely created design object that you can proudly carry no matter where the skies and seas take you. Its sleek silhouette strips every embellishment, except the monogram. The suitcase, reduced to its purest form, is an alliance of innovation, durability, and creativity, or so the atelier describes it.

The Horizon Aluminium is the maison’s first-ever aluminum suitcase and gives a stark competition to what Rimowa offers. The contemporary travel case focuses more on functionality and durability, rather than on how it looks. But without even trying, it comes off as a chic essential that turns a new leaf in the brand’s enduring legacy of movement.

The LV x Newson partnership is but another chapter in a long-standing collaboration spanning over a decade. Yet the Horizon lineup is perhaps the most enduring expression of the partnership, Wallpaper says. Now streamlined into a lightweight suitcase engineered for the modern traveler, the Horizon Aluminium is made from stamped and laser-cut aluminum. It draws on a material long associated with Newson’s bold, future-facing design aesthetic.

What is described as the first rivet-free aluminum suitcase on the market, the new Horizon swaps the traditional folded, riveted build with a single-piece, full-depth shell mounted on an ultra-thin frame. This lightweight construction helps with portability. It forgoes external hinges; instead, it uses discreet mechanisms hidden within the case’s body.

Wearing the classic monogram pattern isn’t just idle decoration, but serves a practical purpose. The monogrammed logo is directly embossed into the surface, enhancing the structural rigidity without resorting to reinforced grooves typical of hard-shell luggage.

The Louis Vuitton Horizon Aluminium uses an externally mounted trolley system to free up packing space inside. Meanwhile, the oversized wheels and an extra-wide telescopic handle help with maneuverability in transit. Not just that, the new aluminum suitcase comes with leather corner reinforcements, TSA-approved locks, and a removable protective cover to ensure that your luxury bag stays with you for ages.

The new collection is available with either natural VVN leather or black leather trim to match your outfit of the day in sleek style. The Horizon Aluminium is designed to meet the demands of modern travelers, expressed through artisanal craftsmanship. It not only delivers, but serves a stylish look that is nothing less than haute couture.

Released globally on June 12 via the Louis Vuitton website, the Horizon Aluminium suitcase is priced at £3,500 (roughly $4,700). There is also a matching £2,580 (about $3,500) Louis Vuitton Vanity Aluminium Case if you wish to start a collection.

Needless to say, Rimowa needs to watch out. The new Horizon packs functionality, aesthetic, and durability, and is sure to rival Rimowa’s own offerings.
