Automated window shades can help you lower energy costs but there hasn’t been much progress in the technology. At present, companies are struck at integrating solar panels for uninterrupted power supply and introducing retrofit kits for automation. However, CES has brought some good news. California-based Mado Dynamic has come up with AI-powered window shades that can help you maximize your home’s energy efficiency. The core behind the functionality is the AI-driven smartphone app that calculates the path of the sun, weather conditions, and time of day to automatically adjust the shades for maximum energy savings.
Using AI, Mado shades automatically adjust to temperature fluctuations to reduce heating and cooling costs which will benefit in the longer run. The automation also adapts to user preferences so that the shades are optimized for both home and away modes. The shades can be controlled with the remote control or the smartphone app.
Mado Dynamic’s new window shades feature trim-to-fit technology, which means you do not need to measure the windows before installation. The shades come in standard sizes and install without tools and screws. With an onboard rechargeable battery, each shade can run for up to six months with typical use. Most importantly, an integrated solar panel charges the battery using solar energy whenever available.

The smart functionality is further enhanced with Matter compatibility that allows the shades to integrate with popular home automation systems like Apple, Amazon, Google Nest, and Samsung. This way, users can control the window coverings through voice commands. Mado window shades will be first available through a Kickstarter campaign that will kick off in February 2025. The price for Modo Dynamic window shades will start at $279.
In similar news from CES 2025, Lutron launched a budget-friendly model to its previously released Serena Shades. Dubbed as Caséta series, the shades seamlessly integrate with Lutron controls and third-party partners like Alexa, Apple Home, and Google Home, but there is no information about Matter integration. Starting at $399, the shades will be available for purchase starting February 2025.
