The COVID-19 pandemic has put us in a situation where we have to think twice before touching an object used by another individual. Since door handles and knobs are the most frequently touched by hand in offices and public places, Architecture Studio Mano de Santo has come up with a DIY door handle, named Hands Up, to help people avoid touching these with their hands.

Designers at the studio were keen to find a solution to help curb the spread of coronavirus. Therefore, they came up with this DIY door handle that is designed to be used with forearm or elbow – instead of the hand. This door protector is designed in the shape of an accordion that you can also create at home with cardboard and scissors.

To help people create their own DIY door handles, the studio has shared their project as free unrestrictive use, providing the design layout template through videos and sketches. They want this project to be their small contribution to improving the current pandemic situation.

These door handles would be useful in hotels, offices, shops, medical centers, and other public spaces with doors. The Valencia-based Architectural team is not expecting any financial gains from this project. Instead, they want it to be a project that maximum number of people can design in the comfort of their home to normalizing their routine.
