Northampton designers Jillian and Michael Gobeille, redesigned a simple and minimalist chair ‘Olivia’ for International Furniture and Design Association exhibition. The wife-husband duo submitted the chair for this year’s theme based IFDA exhibition, which is benefiting local charities and supporting professional development with the auction of these evinced chairs.

The exhibition “Take a Seat” displays each community member’s creatively reimagined ordinary chairs into a work of art. According to Gobeille, they were looking for a chair with simple and clear design, to convert it into a modern, clean and contemporary chair for the exhibition. To complete this contemporary and minimalist chair, Gobeille and his wife took 12-14 hours in comparison to other projects that took more than 35 hours.

The New England chapter’s exhibition and auction raised $16,000 for the Boston and Hartford-based Women’s Institute of Housing and Economic Development and Olivia chair by the duo, fetched $500 alone.
