British architectural firm Hopkins Architects reimagines the Moon Rover dog kennel as a state-of-the-art habitat for 2026 Barkitecture. The dog kennel takes cues from the playful version of the spacecraft shown in the 1960’s American animated sitcom The Jetsons.

The architectural firm perceives the dog kennel as part of a human space mission, engineering it to travel beyond Earth, before landing on the lunar surface. This extraterrestrial adventure transforms a daily ritual of dog walking into a stellar experience.

Weighing 25 kilograms, the structure of the Moon Rover dog kennel is a lightweight, pod-like vessel that stands steadily on expressive landing legs. These legs keep it stable in jagged terrains. In addition, the translucent dome cover highlights the features inside, creating a safe sanctuary for the canine. This domed canopy encloses a cushioned interior, offering both privacy and protection from unwanted elements and unobstructed views of the surroundings.

Inside, the dog can curl up in comfort while keeping an eye out and savoring the stark beauty of the moon’s surface and a rather eye-catching view of the suspended earth on the horizon. The access is even simpler. With the help of a retractable ramp attached to the pod, dogs can easily enter and exit the kennel without a hassle. This ramp also makes the transition from interior comfort to landing on the lunar landscape quite apparent.

The Moon Rover dog kennel takes a retro-futuristic approach, focusing on comfort, safety, companionship, and sensory improvement, keeping their curiosity alive and thriving. “This dog kennel redefines companionship exploration and takes it beyond the stars, imagining a future where even the simplest human-animal rituals might extend beyond our planet.” The Moon Rover dog kennel is among the shortlisted entries for the 2026 Goodwoof Barkitecture.
