Whether you are a cat person or a dog person, we humans love talking to pets even though they can’t talk back, just like with babies. It gives us a boost of serotonin and helps improve the bond with our pets. Imagine if you could understand your pet’s meows or woofs? Despite being unable to communicate as we do, the furry companions can still feel emotions. Several mobile apps are available for pet translation, but a Hong Kong-based startup has taken this further with a wearable device that translates both ways in real-time.

Named PettiChat, it clips onto your pet’s collar or harness and translates your pet’s barks or meows through the device and vice versa. The most interesting feature is that it uses adaptive AI learning to improve over time.

The pet wearable device offers two-way conversation, which means it not only translates pet sounds into human language but also turns your words into sounds pets can recognize, says PettiChat. Weighing only 27g, the device delivers real-time translations in just 1.2 seconds. The device depends upon a multi-modal AI framework that matches over one million voice samples collected from cats and dogs to do accurate translation for you.

Pettichat claims its Pet-LLM achieves a 94.6-percent translation accuracy. The automatic sound detection activates within 40 milliseconds of your pet making a sound, so everything is automated, and you can turn it off at night.

PettiChat features AI Adaptive Learning, allowing it to gradually learn a pet’s specific vocal habits over time and offer more accurate translations. It is designed to read nuances indicating sadness, fear, tension, aggression, and more. Through the companion app, you can always check the chat history to revisit conversation details at any time.

Additionally, an integrated location tracking feature ensures you can know where your pet is in case it goes missing. You can also customize their language with detailed trait analytics and adjust the voice settings using the mobile app.

It is a battery-powered device that supports up to 1,000 pet sound translations. For tracking mode, it is said to last more than 100 hours, which can be considered a good capacity. You can charge it in about one hour using the included magnetic pogo-pin charger.

If you are interested in talking to your dog or cat, PettiChat is currently available to pre-order for an early price of $119 on Kickstarter. Each unit comes with a lifetime free subscription, so it will be a one-time buy.
