Pool noodles, also known as waterlogs and water woggles, are cylindrical-shaped polyethylene foam, which can float very well. These flexible pieces are generally used to learn to swim. California-based industrial designer Lieyah Dagan has found a unique way to utilize pool noodles by creating fun and colorful furniture from them.

Dagan partnered with LA-based furniture designer Spenser Atlas to explore the colorful possibilities of foam tubes in creating a vibrant furniture collection. The duo began by deconstructing old chair frames and tinkering with the shapes and forms the pool noodles can take. Once the designs were finalized, the designer duo added dowels and MDF boards to give extra support to the basic structure. Next, they covered the form with bright pool noodles in eclectic color combinations.

These water-resistant pieces are appropriate to place outside because of their durability. Aside from furniture, the material can be used to create resistance toys, kickboards, and water toys with endless possibilities. Dagan’s take on it is not only fitting for kids but adults as well. Her designs are suitable for parks, playrooms, and such spaces.
