There are various smart thermostats to centrally heat your personal apartment. But, people staying in rental apartments often suffer from overheated or too cold conditions due to their old radiators. To combat the problem, Radlabs– a group of three students at School of Visual Art’s Products of Design program have created a simple DIY Heat Flow thermal kit. The $10 thermal kit uses cardboard frame and series of fans to regulate better heating or cooling throughout your space.

This easy and affordable temperature regulating project is considered as a new take on Nest. This is because, it can heat a room faster and better than any Nest thermostats. However the Heat Flow isn’t app-enabled or self-learning like Nest, but three fans surrounded by cardboard can efficiently circulate the air to the radiator for further heating the room more quickly. Moreover, due to presence of three different fans the heat flow can be distributed to wider space.

It would be a better option for renters to carry this compact system to any flat they move in and use for better heat-controlling. Sadly, these kits are not available yet because some testing and advancements needs to be done on the project, before commercial launch. But, this one is indeed a commendable as well as affordable idea for renters to maintain temperature of their apartment.
