It has been over two years since fire from a lighting storm broke out in Richard Branson’s prized Necker Island mansion. And, now after a rebuilding phase going into months, the Javanese style abode is once again back in its newest avatar. Christened as the Great House (like the original residence), the magnificent mansion perched strategically atop a mound (in the British Virgin Islands), offers paradisiacal vistas of the surrounding turquoise hued water and the distant hills of the Caribbean. However, more than just views, it is the fusion of classy comfort and rustic essence that really tickles our architectural senses.

The ‘piece de resistance’ of the Great House is the upper level master suite that boasts of 1,500 sq ft of space with an imposing deck for breathtaking views, a Jacuzzi for two people, a stand-alone outdoor bath and a kitchenette with a plentifully stocked refrigerator. This commanding spatial zone is accompanied by the main lounge area with its very own expansive outdoor terrace. This terrace area comprises of furnishings like hammocks, sofas and a huge dining table to accommodate a great many number of guests. However the best part of this space would surely be the connecting zip line mechanism that allows you to go directly into the sandy white beach.

Other spatial features of the Great House include eight guest rooms, with their own balconies, king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms. All of these attributes are indubitably complemented by the authentic architectural components from Javanese culture, like thatched roofing, wooden facades and bamboo styled furniture pieces.
