How about a dash of the Orient Express inside your home’s dining area? Confused? Well, the Il Treno by Dutch design studio Tjep is a dining booth inspired by the hermetic compartments found in those old, romantic trains. Made from solid oak or ash timber, the whole booth is a standalone furniture with all the components intact. This of course, includes the hanging table, which is suspended from an overhead metallic rack that endows an unique flavor to the whole wooden furniture system.

According to the designers, the Il Treno is actually based on a previous Tjep conception, which involved a spatial component inside a pizzeria. Coming back to this design, the overall form is kept pretty simple with interesting elements that subtly enhance the flavor of romanticism. For example, in addition to the metallic rack, there are inconspicuous metallic steps on the either side of the booth to help you get inside. Furthermore, there are two versions of the Il Treno, with one of them conveniently having additional cupboards and shelves integrated behind the seats.

Price: $9,520 (available from the company’s store).
