Minneapolis-based metal art sculptor, Sara Hanson is founder of W.O.W. (workshop on wheels), a traveling sculpture foundry that creates metal art sculptures and also educates about the metal casting process. She has recently bought a retired metro transit city bus and is converting it as her mobile foundry and workshop on wheels to travel around and teach others to make metal art.
The first phase of renovating this 40 foot long, 2001 Gillig Phantom bus is complete. The walls, electricity, sink, display case, storage space and research area with workbenches and stools for 16 people have been put up. She is now seeking funds on Kickstarter to include a toilet, greywater system, heating units, exterior graphics, and a wheelchair lift.
In her workshop on wheels entitled WOW Mobile Metal Lab and Show, she will be creating cast metal objects and also educating people about the process. She travels to schools, businesses, organizations, and communities, offering an opportunity to create individual cast metal sculptures or work on collaborative projects. People with disabilities can also be mentored at her workshop.
