It’s that time of year when we are finalising entrants for the best trailers, tiny homes, and other off-road rigs launched over the past 12 months. Just in time for the list, Scamp Trailers, a Minnesota–based RV manufacturer considered by many to be as iconic as Airstream and often associated with the origins of late 70s moulded-fibreglass “egg trailers,” has introduced its latest model. Dubbed Scamp X, the company’s first-ever off-road trailer is not only a strong contender for this year’s roundup but also one of the best rigs to come from the foundry of Scamp Trailers.

Measuring 13.5 feet in length and 6.8 feet in width, the trailer offers 6 feet of headroom to the camper. As Scamp’s first true off-road model, the Scamp X provides the brand’s highest ground clearance to date, an impressive 18 inches.

Other features include off-road tyres (ST235/75R15), a reinforced axle, and improved 17-degree approach and 22-degree departure angles to enhance its trail performance. Although rugged, it remains relatively lightweight with a dry weight of approximately 1,986 lbs.

Scamp X off-grid features include an optional 400-watt roof solar, a lithium battery package, a Starlink/TV setup, a backup camera, an outdoor shower, a magnetic accessory panel, and a power tongue jack, each allowing buyers to tailor the trailer for deeper boondocking or added convenience. Standard amenities include 12 gallons of fresh water, 21 gallons of grey water, and 6 gallons of black water.

Inside, Scamp offers two layouts to fit different camping styles. Namely, Trek and the Altitude both feature a rear U-shaped dinette that converts into a bed. The Trek features front bunk beds, and the Altitude replaces them with a full wet bath for added comfort.

The interior is outfitted with maple trim, nickel hardware, redesigned countertops, and durable rubber coin flooring, ideal for muddy boots and adventure equipment. Not to mention, a sink, a two-burner glass-top stove, a refrigerator, a water heater, acrylic-insulated windows, air conditioning, and even a portable Bluetooth speaker.

Off-road and off-grid enthusiasts seeking a new trailer with a legacy behind it can place an order now, with the base model priced from US$28,495. Although heavier and pricier than Scamp’s traditional models, X’s capability, thoughtful interior, and customisation options make it a compelling choice for adventurers seeking a small trailer that can confidently venture off the beaten path.
