Egyptian design brand Shell Homage, known for transforming discarded egg, nut, and cacao shells into functional objects, showcased two beautiful tables at this year’s Salone del Mobile that look like little pieces of the rainbow. The OLAH tables and the PLANET WAVE Tables add a luxurious touch to your surroundings while being completely biodegradable. Even if you don’t eat eggs, you wouldn’t be able to resist these eggshell tables in your home.

The brand presented an exploration named ‘From Waste to Wonder,’ featuring objects made from biomaterials derived from food and agricultural waste. It also used newly developed materials created from argon waste from Morocco, golden berry leaves, rose petals, beetroot pigments, orange and lemon peel, hibiscus, turmeric, and more.

As for the designs, the OLAH Tables have a unique design and philosophy. The OLAH Tables are multifunctional and can be used as side tables, a vase, or a serving platter. They feature a curvy base that carries vibrant, soft shades. The top is a circular slab that can be detached from the base effortlessly. The tables are inspired by the Egyptian Olah, which was like a cheat code during summer. It was a mud vessel to keep the water cool during the hot months. The brand aimed to keep this lineage by creating tables that are grounded in their form and soft in their appearance.

Another furniture piece that stood out was the PLANET WAVE Table. These tables are made from egg- and nutshell bio-composite, giving the pieces an intricate, non-repetitive pattern that shouts of their transformation.

The PLANET WAVE Tables are designed for flat-pack simplicity, which gives them movement, and can be used both as a table and a stool. Easy, no-tool installation makes them convenient while establishing a quiet dialogue between utility and meaning.

The core inspiration behind the collection comes from transformation itself; materially, environmentally, and culturally. We are fascinated by the idea that discarded matter can be reborn into surfaces, objects of beauty, function, and emotional value.

Both furniture pieces were the main characters from the whole lot by the brand. Pairing sustainability and function, the tables elevate the aesthetics of any room with their presence while adding a luxurious touch to the surroundings.
