Smart displays have a huge global market. In 2022 this market was positioned roughly at $3 billion with the projection of it scaling up by 25 percent by the end of this decade. In this market, the biggest sellers are speaker-enabled displays that come with built-in cameras to streamline and organize things for homeowners. Such displays have their merits but the cameras onboard render them immensely vulnerable to hacking and toiling, jeopardizing homeowners’ privacy and safety.

Taking the ruckus of apps and the gimmick of cameras out of a large display, Skylight Frame has rolled out a massive 27-inch touchscreen calendar display that has only two motives: to help organize your home and give you a screen to relish the pictures of family and friends shared with you. This is therefore a very straightforward, distraction-free smart display that outwits the other similar displays with its minimalism.

Dubbed Cal Max, the 27-inch display is the third and largest iteration of the Skylight Touchscreen Calendar. Previously available in 10-inch and 15-inch models, the new large smart family calendar is anti-glare, has a thin bezel, and is made to sync with a range of apps to provide families a streamlined option to access their calendars, chore chart, meal planning, weather, and photo albums.

Given its size, the Cal Max is essentially designed to be wall-mounted in landscape or portrait mode, which means you can see the day’s tasks and pictures from a distance. While the former makes the wide, touchscreen display ideal for family homes, the portrait mode renders it a viable option for tighter spaces. Since the display can sync to apps, you can have data from your Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, or more steaming right on it.

If you keep an organized calendar for the family and the members are too busy to see what they have been assigned, Cal Max will take the pain away. The large screen will ensure every member knows when the next doctor’s appointment is, who is going to pick up the toddler from her dance class, and more. Planning the day with the Skylight Cal Max is going to be a breeze.

Interestingly, Cal Max is not a screen to display your calendar or weather updates for the day, it in fact can double as a photo frame. Viewing photos sent by family members on a 27-inch screen, well nothing gets better. A fascinating addition to Cal Max, to put it into the kids’ league, is its color-coding system, which allows the use of emojis and colors to mark completed tasks.

Unfortunately, at this time Skylight Cal Max does not support Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or any other voice assistant, but if that’s not a deal breaker, the smart display is available for preorder at $600 in natural aluminum and charcoal colors. Shipping is likely to begin in June 2024.
