Every year billions of personal care product bottles are disposed of in landfills which contaminate our oceans and the environment. What’s more surprising is that almost all of these bottles are used for just weeks but the plastic packaging material takes almost 400 years to decompose. Frustrated by this fact, Germany-based product designer Jonna Breitenhuber has envisioned SOAPBOTTLE – a liquid soap packaging that can replace plastic bottles and be used as a soap after use.

SOAPBOTTLE is a 100ml rectangular-shaped personal care product that contains soft and nourishing body wash made of natural ingredients. It can be opened by cutting the marked corner. Once the body wash is used, the empty bottle can be used as hand soap. Just like soap, the container dissolves with repeated use, thus reducing wastage.

This has been made up of organic ingredients – oils, and caustic soda. It also has a metal clip made up of stainless steel. Even its paper label is recyclable, making it one of the most environment-friendly products. As of now, SOAPBOTTLE is available in three colors i.e. spicy orange, evergreen, and light blue.

Breitenhuber while working as a packaging designer for cosmetics products noticed that there was hardly any sustainable material used for making personal care packaging products. Determined to come up with a solution, she started to work on the concept.

She drew inspiration from the food industry as it has many products whose packaging or wrappers are also edible. She wondered if she could do the same with cosmetics. Breitenhuber started experimenting with soap and finally came up with a concept known as SOAPBOTTLE.

Breitenhuber intends to create SOAPBOTTLE in various shapes and colors and scents. She also plans to collaborate with various partners in the future. To see the packaging made from soap for real, a Kickstarter campaign for the product is underway.
