Star Wars fans are having a fun year: LEGO is dropping dozens of themed sets every month, we got ourselves the Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, Bath & Body Works launched its first themed collection, and so much more. Now, we have a lightsaber to fight bugs. Meet the Bug Saber, an ambitious Star Wars-themed bug zapper that will let you channel your inner Jedi to take care of pesky little things.
Over the years, bug zappers have not had much design improvisation. They have had a very basic, uninspiring design, landing “somewhere between forgettable and mildly unpleasant,” as Yanko Design’s JC Torres points out. These are functional objects that we need in the summer, but don’t like to have on display. Bug zappers have been utilitarian, but never something that people are excited to use, that is, until now.
The Bug Saber is designed by Brightbeam Solutions to give the bug zapper a makeover that excites you about the prospect of using it. It rises above its function of pest control and channels a form from a galaxy far, far away.
The Bug Saber features a 4,000V high-voltage zapping grid framed by a glowing LED ring. Don’t worry, the light won’t turn red unless you try to embrace the Dark Side. The grid is mounted on a lightsaber-style hilt with distinct similarities to what we have seen in the space opera.
The aesthetics resemble the sci-fi gadget rather than sticking to the plain, boring silhouette of the age-old home appliance. The zapper, however, stays more or less similar, considering the functionality.
Now, let’s break down the construction of the Bug Saber. It is built around three core components: the Bug Saber Head that has the ring and the zapping grid; an entry-level hilt for those starting fresh in pest control; and the vertical stand. The best part is you can use your own compatible saber-style hilt. The compatible hilt, the ones used in cosplay or collectors’ communities, can swap in the head directly, turning the existing setup into a functional pest-control device.
When you turn on the bug zapper, the LED ring glows just like the Jedi weapon, emitting sound effects as well, making you feel like a young Padawan learning ways of the Jedi. Insects are drawn to the device’s light, where the high-voltage grid takes care of the problem immediately. The entire process flows the same way as a regular bug zapper, only with pizzaz.
Whether you are sitting on the back porch with a fly around you, buzzing incessantly, or a mosquito sucking the peace and blood off your life, the Bug Saber will give you ultimate pest control.
If you don’t want to deal with insects hands-on, the Bug Saber can be displayed on its vertical stand with the illuminated ring running and drawing in insects on its own. You can put the device in the background, handling things quietly whether you are outside or in. This works out especially well during the bug season.
Currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter, you can reserve your own Bug Saber Complete Experience Set with the stand for $69. If you do not want the stand, the Starter Set can be reserved for $54. With estimated delivery beginning in December 2026, this might be the perfect Christmas gift for a Star Wars fan.
