Jordy and Tia, an Australian couple have lived on the road for years in a van home. The decision to embrace this nomadic life in their kombi named Stella has not been without challenges, but the adventures and perks are there too. One of the perks is that they get to take their van home wherever they go. The couple bought a 1975 Volkswagen Kombi in 2018 and turned it into a full-time home to live and travel. The kombi being 49 years old took a lot of time and finance to restore it to make it adaptable to the couple’s new lifestyle.

A compact kitchen in the kombi has a compact countertop, some cabinets, and a tiny sink. There is also a slide-out feature with a cooktop, which can be accessed by sliding a small unit out of the van. The slide-out feature lets the couple enjoy a picturesque view while cooking their meals or indulging in the aroma of coffee.

The kombi has a pop-up roof for an extra head space which they sometimes use as their makeshift cozy area to relax after covering long distances. They have tools stored at the back of the kombi, just in case it starts acting up in the middle of the road, however, that depends on the miles they travel in a day.

There are windows for the indoor-outdoor flow and one at the rear opens up entirely to the gorgeous view, fastened with hydraulics. The space at the back is a convertible area as a bedroom and as a lounge.

Jordy and Tia have traveled 200,000 miles around Australia since converting their van into a home. Downsizing in a kombi has been an unconventional yet exhilarating experience for the couple. The Stella van home is accoutered with facilities that complement their lifestyle.
