Bang & Olufsen is a renowned Danish company that has been manufacturing superior quality audio and video products for decades. For instance the Beo Play A9 is one of their finest designs that was intriguing not only because of its circular shape but also because it produced a mesmerizing sound. The company also organizes the B&O Play Design Student Competition to allow students from different institutes to come up with new designs and ideas for making their products more unconventional.  A student of RISD, (Rhode Island School of Design) Kebei Li has applied in the competition with his design called Sublimation, which is a redesign of Beo Play A9.

Combining the design of Beo Play A9 speaker and the Japanese Nendo’s Fade Out Chair, the Chinese student has created the new Bang & Olufsen A9 speaker with a little variation. Legs in particular, of the Sublimation speaker represents the disappearance effect of the fade out chair. Through his design he brings about a third transitory element to the musical experience. Kebei Li explains music as “a physical transition of electric impulses into audible sounds allowing the emotional transition from the real world to a mental sublimed space”.

A visual transition from opacity to transparence is symbolized by  the gradient printed opaque to transparent polycarbonate legs of the Sublimation.  The model is aesthetically gorgeous as along with the evanescent legs, the back of the circular disc is covered  in black cover manufactured using injection molding, an anodized aluminum  ring enclosing the circuar disc while the front fabric of the speaker is an abstract black and white image of a galaxy.
