London-based startup Swyft Home, proclaimed as the sofa-in-a-box company, caught plenty of limelight last year when it produced a sofa that is delivered in a box and can be put together by a person without tools. Following up on this signature flat-pack style furniture, the company has now launched the Model 04 sofa bed. This one also comes in a box, which makes it easy to move it through tight entranceways or staircases.

The Model 04 sofa bed is designed to look more like a sofa that can be showcased in a living room and reveals its bed function only when needed. It transforms from a 3-seater sofa into a bed in many ways. It makes use of a hinged Swyft-loks to ensure a smooth transition from sofa to bed without the need for any tools. Interestingly, this sofa bed includes storage space for a mattress topper, which is a rarity in this type of furniture.

Comfort and aesthetic are two main priorities for the sofa bed design. It is made from seven-inch thick, high-density foam and has more than 300 pocket springs. Its rounded arms, base, seat cushion, back and legs also define the style of softness and comfort. The back cushions are taller and stuffed with crumbed foam and Comforel.

Some other important design aspects are the non-metal frame and metal back legs with their caps placed at a 25-degree angle for stability. The Swyft Model 04 sofa bed is a result of six months of research and development. It aims to serve as a beautiful sofa and also a comfortable bed ensuring guests don’t complain of bad sleep or back pain again.

Swyft wanted to create a very comfortable sofa which not only doubles as a very comfortable bed but could also be used as the main sofa, says the Design Director, John O’Leary in an interview.

Available in Swyft’s stain-resistant colors in both linen and velvet, the sofa can be purchased from the official website. The price starts at £1,995 (about $2,800).
