London-based Nir Meiri design studio is distinguished by its out of the ordinary design approach. The studio makes unique products from unusual materials like the Marine Life table lamp made from seaweed. Recently, Nir Meiri has come up with the Veggie Lights – lamps made from red cabbage.

With an idea to use vegetable as main material, Nir in collaboration with designer Vaidehi Thakkar has made this sustainable table lamp collection.

The process started with separating red cabbage leaves and then soaking them in water-based adhesives to obtain antifungal properties. The treated vegetables were then molded into shape and left to dry in high temperatures until all moisture evaporated.

Veggie Lights table lamp stands on a black base and features a lampshade made in shape a cabbage leaf. There are two different versions of the lamp – one has a round silhouette and the other keeps the original patterns of cabbage leaves. When the lamps are turned on, the veins and marbled coloring of leaves create an attention-grabbing visual effect.
