Expedition-grade campers are not common, and the segment is majorly dominated by oversized rigs with high prices. Tahoma E by Drive OVP aims to change that perception by combining maneuverability of a van with off-road capability of a heavy expedition rig in one unit. Built on the commercial Ford E-450 chassis, this Class B+ expedition motorhome utilizes a U-Joint off-road 4×4 conversion and a Globe Trekker box with a zero-torsion subframe to tackle harsh terrain safely.
According to Drive OVP, the “The Tahoma E was designed for travelers who want true off-road capability without sacrificing comfort. We combined the maneuverability of a van with the living space of a larger motorhome, creating an expedition vehicle built for extended travel and memorable adventures.”
At the core of the Tahoma E’s off-road performance is its heavy-duty Ford E-450 chassis that has been transformed by a U-Joint off-road 4×4 conversion. The rig also features a 6-inch suspension lift paired with 37-inch heavy-duty tires mounted on super single wheels to maximize off-road capabilities.
The off-roading experience is further improved by the zero-torsion subframe that delivers up to 22 degrees of articulation. When navigating through deep ruts or crossing uneven boulders, the truck frame can twist independently while the Globe Trekker composite camper box remains flat. This keeps all four tires planted for better traction, stability and off-chamber control.
Despite its high payload capability and 14,500-pound Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), the Tahoma E maintains great maneuverability. With a compact 23.5-foot footprint, similar to a 170-inch-wheelbase Sprinter van, the camper can be easily managed on tight mountain trails or cramped city streets.
The camper is also capable of serious off-grid reliability. Its electrical system combines a 1,100-watt rooftop solar array with a substantial 1,000Ah lithium battery bank managed by a Victron 3000W inverter. On sunny days, the setup can power the roof-mounted 12V air conditioner continuously without draining the batteries. There is also a 53-gallon fresh water tank and a 20-gallon gray water tank to support extended stays.

The truck camper uses a straight-walled composite box, allowing it to offer width and standing room of a full expedition truck inside. You can choose between two layouts: the Hauler model prioritizes secure storage for mountain bikes and outdoor gear, and the Lounger version is designed for those who prefer additional comfort and living space over cargo capacity.
The Tahoma-E offers sleeping capacity of up to 6 people alongside belted seating for up to 5 passengers, which in itself is a rare feat. The interior also includes a kitchen, seating area, shower, and waterless toilet. There is also an option for a recirculating Infinity Shower system that will reduce water consumption during longer trips. The design also provides enough standing room for occupants to move between the cab and living area without stepping outside.
Drive OVP created Tahoma E off-road truck camper specifically for adventurous families, overlanders, and former “vanlifers” who want the hardcore capability of an expedition truck but not a large commercial vehicle.
