Pio Manzu is a legend in the history of Italian automobile design. Although he was profoundly known for designing automobiles, he was also fond of furniture designing. This can be said of the furniture designs that were found in his archives after his death in 1969. These contained various sketches and drawings of a lounge chair, which was later dubbed as Manzu Lounge Chair.  He even created a prototype of the chair’s seat, but it could not be completed due to his untimely death.

On deeply reviewing the designer’s archived sketches and studies, Manzu’s son Giacomo Manzoni teamed up  with Renato Staffaucher  and re-designed the lounge chair along with an ottoman. This lounge seat was clearly inspired by the interiors of a car. They named the design ‘Manzu’, after the legendary designer’s name. Their design was completed along with a foot rest or ottoman on a four-star base.

This design was undertaken by an Italian furniture design industry Alias for mass production. The Manzu lounge chair design features a bucket seat recalling a driver’s or pilot’s seat. This rests on a five star aluminum base. Both the lounge and ottoman are composed of a dense polyurethane that has been co-formed with polyurethane foam and the luxurious leather upholstery throws behind every doubt related to its comfort.

The Manzù Lounge Chair + Ottoman is available in black or brown leather upholstery. If you are fond of collecting luxurious furnishing pieces , then this one is a must have. You can buy it for a cool price of $8,490.
