Gagan Singh, the designer of Gagan Design, has beautifully handcrafted a vintage aircraft engine cowling into the C45 Expeditor engine cowling couch. Apparently, Gagan Design is an aviation furniture and modern lighting design studio who strongly believes that the best things in life are still made by hand.
The couch is made from mirror-polished aluminum and is then upholstered in Canadian red to make it look sturdy-yet-chic seating furniture. According to Gagan, the couch is handmade and a lot of hard work and patience has gone into converting an engine cowling into a beautiful furniture item for your home. The whole process took extensive thinking, delineating, cleaning, stripping, designing and finally fabrication of the couch.
The C-45 is a military version of the Beechcraft Model 18 light commercial transport aircraft used during World War II and also one of the world’s most widely used light aircraft. The couch is being designed with a belief to pay homage to this historic flying machine and engineering. It weighs just 75 lbs and is 48″L x 33″W x 23″H in size.
This recycled aviation furniture – which adds glamour to your dull living room is reinstated in Canada, where the craftsman breathes new life into a dying historic aircraft. And, to take home such a spectacular piece of art, you need to shell out $4,500 to buy one.
