If CES 2013 was any indicator, the commercial potential of smart home oriented systems is sure to thrive in the coming years. From the technological perspective, such systems are certainly facilitated by internet based cloud controlling mechanisms. However, accessing such mechanisms from a universal control device makes the job of the user much easier. In this regard, Italian based Axel has unveiled their Rome keyboard, a touch based keyboard device that integrates different home control systems into a single, multi-purpose entity.
Design wise, the form of the Rome is pretty straightforward with a certain ergonomic bearing. The system is totally touch based, thus eschewing those pesky, protruding keys. Coming to the access interface, the front facade showcases a pristine, high-impact, LCD panel which displays all the required controls clearly to the user.
Now, as for practicality, the Rome basically acts as the portable control center for all these collective controlling functions (in offices or homes). These functions include activating and adjusting lighting fixtures, interior temperature control, security, blocking the entry gates and even managing water sprinklers in the garden. These individual systems are supplied by the parent company Axel, and hence are compatible with the Rome’s control interface.
