Moka pots are being used for years, but their basic design philosophy has remained almost the same. There are various instances when different makers have re-imagined Moka pots with a lightweight design or with glass top or ceramic elements, but the Milan-based engineer and designer Matteo Frontini has done something innovative by optimizing the heat flow in the base for faster brewing. His design of the Turbo Moka pot revolves around enhancing the base geometry of the Moka pot for better heat distribution.
Frontini developed the first prototype in 2024 with a spiral-shaped aluminum water chamber inspired by jet engines. It is touted to cut the time needed to brew the coffee, significantly. The spiral shape gives the pot much more surface area, so it stays in contact with the flame longer. This helps heat the coffee more efficiently than a regular Moka pot. The designer says, it can brew coffee in half the time with less energy consumption.
It thus enhances efficiency with a design that captures more heat, uses less gas, and naturally brews coffee faster. He has re-imagined only the boiler section with an innovative form while the main body and the internal funnel and filter have remain the same.
Matteo has achieved a commendable design update that improves an iconic product without fading away its identity. Being based in a country where Moka pot was invented, he definitely understands the entire process and thus cleverly elevates the overall functionality. The Turbo Moka is entirely made in Italy using a traditional lost-wax casting process, making it even more precious to own. It has a capacity of three cups with about 130 ml/ 4.4 oz aluminum water container base.
