Discerning the irrevocable environmental challenges, the revolution of creating sustainable and viable furniture has touched base with all industries worldwide. To that accord, designers are focusing on producing eco-friendly and long-lasting furnishing products. Layer, a London-based design firm in collaboration with US KFI Studios, has recycled plastic bottles into the modish felt-covered Vale Chair Collection to eliminate plastic waste.

‘Vale’ is a collection committed to producing sustainable furniture and utilizes PET plastic bottles recycled into felt-covered shells. Chic and poised variants including a chair, stools of different heights, and armchairs are noticeable parts of this collection.

Manipulating the indigenous process, the bottles are broken down and spun into non-woven felt. Then the felt is pressed under extreme heat and pressure to create the aesthetic design of this furniture collection.

The curved shell is indented at the center of the chair to contour the body of the user with ease. The felt cover wraps around the steel frame and is secured by simple bolts. At the end of life, these furniture pieces can easily be deconstructed for recycling purposes.
