Volkswagen ID. Buzz, a battery electric minivan, is the latest addition to VW’s growing family of EVs. It boasts a funky exterior reminiscent of the iconic VW T2 bus, popular in the late ’60s. However, I am not here to discuss how good or bad the Buzz is, I am here to apprise you of its camper conversion prototype by Bavaria-based Alpincamper.

It really amazes me how big companies miss out on chances that could fetch them loads of money. In my personal opinion, vans are a thing of the past and everyone wants a camper version of it that could function as a possible shelter offering sleeping space with a kitchen. Well, the German manufacturer has assured that they will come with a California Camper version, but it is slated to release sometime in 2025.

This late release gives an opportunity to the German outfitter Aplincamper. The small-scale camper outfitter from Germany has introduced a highly modified and innovative camper conversion model of ID. Buzz that gloats a hippie look from the outside and boasts multiple functionalities inside. Unveiled at this year’s edition of the world’s largest tourism and leisure consumer trade fair held in Die Urlaubmesse, the Alpincamper conversion model tries to make the most of Buzz’s limited space.

It offers a kitchen in the rear that faces a convertible sofa/bed for two. The kitchen section features a sink, and induction cooker, and has plenty of workspace. There is under-counter storage to store small-to-medium scale items. Exhibiting a retro look, the campervan also features green cabinets and large drawers that house an integrated fridge and other nitty-gritty.

In addition to basic features, the conversion also features a pop-up roof tent. As silly as it may sound, the roof tent is not for providing additional sleeping space but to create more headroom for those inside the van. Not to mention, the tent has windows on all four sides that allow fresh air to enter the van.

Building small vans into spacious homes has been the forte of Alpincamper. VW ID. Buzz conversion might have been their biggest challenge so far, but the company has made sure that their prototype ticks all the boxes.
