From creating ultimate backyard ambiance to warming up the outdoor space on chilling evenings, wood-burning fire pits can be a relaxing and cozy addition to the outer areas of any home. Recently, we came across an interesting DIY project by April Wilkerson, a professional DIYer and woodworker. She has creatively upcycled an old drum into a practical Scrap Wood-Burning Pit, and we were impressed by the design and its utility.

Being a woodworker, her workshop is often filled with scrap wood that’s obviously of no use. So, instead of piling up wooden remains in her workspace, she decided to create a metal fire pit to burn scrap wood and keep her backyard warm during chilly evenings.

April’s DIY project:

To start off the project, she cut some portion of an old drum and drilled few holes for proper air flow for the flames. Next part was to build a metal base – using pattern templates, plasma cutter, welding machine, spindle sander, drills, and other tools.

After that, she joined the metal base and the drum section together to create a functional fire pit. It is further painted in black to give an aesthetic appeal to the outdoor areas where it is kept. Wilkerson has surely found a great way to keep herself warm this winter while getting rid of scrap wood pieces.

If you have got some DIY skills, you can also try and make a similar fire pit for your backyard. Check out the tutorial in the video given below or more details on her blog.
