Daniel Arsham, an eminent New York-based artist-designer, has carved out a niche for himself shaping sculptural artwork around various disciplines. Reviving the Dino Chair in two new limited-edition colorways, he offers, yet again, an amusing addition to the world of chairs, blurring the lines between art, architecture, and design. Created first with inspiration from the flexible sculpting quality of Play-Doh, the chair mimics the form and is reminiscent of his son’s playful clay models and creations.

With a successful partnership in the past, the designer has yet again collaborated with the exuberant New York gallery Friedman Benda to display the new black and pink colorways of the chair that blend aesthetic and practicality in one. The low-lying chair’s design is simple with a wavy seat and an attractive backrest and no armrests. Its backrest and legs adopt an inverted V-shape and maintain stability without compromising style and functionality.

The shape is accentuated further with curves and blurred edges to keep the raw minimalistic appeal intact. Made from durable birch wood, the chair has a robust structure ideal for everyday use without occupying much space in open-plan interiors. Daniel Arsham adds, “Every single thing that I’ve designed furniture-wise, I designed it with the intention of using it.” You can use the chair while sipping on your coffee, reading a book, or just relaxing.

With creativity at its core, the Dino chair will be available in limited edition colors starting May 14, 2024, through Basic.Space. Only 20 signed examples of each color would be sold, so if the colorful facelift of the Dino dining chair from 2021 is worth your money, you can preorder your option today.
