Halloween decorations are never complete without Jack-o’-lanterns. The tradition of carving vegetables predates the modern Halloween customs but it still holds a strong significance. Albeit messy and time-consuming, pumpkin carving is a fun-filled family activity. But having carved a handful of tough-skin pumpkins myself last year, I understand that it is not for everyone.

To people who cannot endure the pressure of carving an actual pumpkin, here’s an easy Halloween craft that will add Jack-o’-lanterns to your décor while saving you time and money. This DIY Jack-o’-lantern garland for Halloween is easy to make and add to your holiday charm. And it costs less than $10. Here is what you need and how to do it.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Active Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Difficulty Level: Easy

What You Will Need:

  • Orange foam sheets
  • Hot glue gun
  • Craft cutter
  • Jute yarn
  • Black Sharpie and pen
  • Hand-drawn or printed stencil of a Jack-o’-lantern

How to Make Jack-o’-Lantern Garland

First, you will trace the outline of your stencil onto the orange foam sheets. Make as many pumpkins as you need for the garland.

Then cut the little blobs using a sharp craft knife. Remember that foam sheets are thick so you may need to apply some pressure to get a clean cut.

Once you have all the pumpkin cutouts, trace the eyes and mouth with a black pen and fill in the shapes using the Sharpie.

Next, draw curved vertical lines to mimic indentations on the pumpkins.

Last, cut a long piece of jute twine, it should be the desired length of where you want to display the Halloween craft. Flip the Jack-o’-lantern cutouts and glue the twine on the back leaving about 5 inches between each piece.
