We have seen several types of home decoration products made from unused engines of cars and planes. There are unique tables like Boeing jet engine table and Ferrari V12 engine table. Gearheads with a DIY perception can try out these tables to decorate their homes in unique way or transforming an unused engine to show your passion in style. This time we have brought a simple and unique engine coffee table made from WRX Boxer engine (two passenger side cam gear) decked underneath a 2’x 3’ beveled, see-through glass with contoured edges.

Imgur user [graypes] and his father combined wrinkle red and aluminum with black finish to give a smooth touch to the engine table for displaying it uniquely in any type of interiors. After crazy accident of his Bugeye car, the father & son duo snatched the busted engine out and finally decided to make an coffee table to transform it into a décor piece for their home.

How engine coffee table was made?

At first, the engine was full of grease and oxidation marks, so he cleared it with aluminum acid-based cleaner and gunk gel. However, you need to use necessary precautions to keep yourself safe while doing this. Now, the engine looked a bit clean, but still there were oil smudges on its body. Hot tanking this aluminum engine tuned out to be tedious, so he scrubbed and washed it continuously with scotchbrite pads, 400 grit paper and dish soaps to bring it to ideal condition for complete aluminum paint. Finally, he cleaned all parts with VHT self etching primer and then coated every part two times in generic aluminum.

Before the paint, he attached black-colored dowel rods to engine to serve as its legs. You can also use washers or spacers to keep them in level or add a shim in rods so that the table stays firm. Lower intake and valve covers were powder coated in catchy wrinkle red using harbor freight powder coater. Its cams were cut off to slightly decrease the overall weight.

Finally, all the painted parts were assembled and plug holes in the engine body were filled with coil packs but you need to clean them, so that they don’t look odd in the engine table. He also took the studs out of the intake and used 4 bolts of same size in their place to fill the square space over bolts, so that no one can see them.

He cut a square stock of door weatherstripping and affixed it to the engine by drilling it and finally padded glass mount to finalize the engine coffee table. Weatherstripping has enough grip to hold the glass fixed at its place, so here we focus on the final product in catchy colors. The thick glass padded over the engine looks unique and allows viewing of the colored engine from all directions. If you also have an unused car engine at home or you are a gear head, then stun everyone by making one for yourself.
