Omar Gandhi, a renowned architect, designs an elevated bridge-like architecture over the scenic Atlantic Coastline for a nature enthusiast couple. The East River Residence, located in Nova Scotia, Canada, seamlessly adapts to the landscape and keeps the vegetation thriving underneath. It suspends over the rocky shoreline without ruining the dense coastal forest. The contemporary hovering architectural structure offers picturesque views of the seascape on one side and lush forest on the other.

Designed to blend seamlessly within the untouched terrain, the East River Residence feels like a serene elevated retreat integrated into nature. Its bridge-like linear structure keeps natural drainage and rocky formation intact while offering panoramic views of the horizon. The minimalist architecture of the residence has clear lines with a limited material palette, perched on thin, steel stilts.

The exterior of the minimalist residence has a sculptural yet restrained appearance. It has a long horizontal form with a well-defined roof, made with light-toned metal panels. Below the roof, pale cedar wood wall cladding adds warmth and softens the angular silhouette of the house. On the other end of the house, the grey and sandy brick wall contrasts against the warm cedar to give a subtle textural richness.

When it comes to interiors, the open-plan layout of the living area maintains natural fluidity while connecting it with the yoga studio, dining area, and kitchen. The expansive, floor-to-ceiling glazing of the coastal house turns the living room into a transparent viewing platform, dissolving the boundary between home and nature.

The large glazed windows provide unobstructed, breathtaking views of the scenery and flood the interior with natural light. It enhances mood and works like a tranquilizer when the refreshing coastal breeze brushes against your skin. The private spaces, like the bedroom, clad with timber, and bathroom, are less transparent and zoned into enclosed areas that meet privacy needs as compared to the social places mentioned above.

The patio and deck form a vital part of the coastal residence, extending living space outdoors. Built from natural wood, these outdoor platforms feel a natural extension of the landscape. Instead of removing the boulders and rocks, the architect constructed the patio and deck around them to preserve the environment. It is especially useful for immersive meditation and yoga experiences.

The East River Residence is a living proof of a one-of-a-kind, brilliant architecture with its minimalist and non-intrusive design. Shaped like a bridge, the modern house integrates itself into the environment instead of sitting on a reshaped terrain. The materials and color palette of the coastal house blend marvelously with the wild nature, making it one of the most refined, rejuvenating, and serene retreats.
