It’s a matter of weeks till Barkitecture returns with amazing dog dwellings. Britain’s leading kennel design competition will kick off on May 20 and will feature dog houses/kennels from renowned international architects including Foster + Partners and George and James Architects. One strong contender heading to the contest to give strong contention is Coffey Architects.

Michael Henriksen, Director at Coffey Architects tells me, “We are exhibiting Fetch, a dog house based on the principle of Gabion walls at the competition.” It is to be noted that the Gabion walls (retaining walls) are made of stacked stone-filled gabions tied together with wire. The Fetch Dog House follows the same principle but with a little twist. “Instead of rocks, it’s filled with balls, dog toys, or anything else relevant to the dog,” Michael informs me.

What looks like a creative, fun, and beautiful basket of balls is a relaxing space for your canine friend. Ideal for small to medium size dogs, the Fetch dog kennel not only offers a cozy nook to your canine friend but also stores dog toys and creates an architectural refuge for them to rest. As per the exclusive pictures provided to Homecrux by Coffey Architects, the Fetch dog kennel features a mesh basket structure filled with tennis balls.

The whole structure is manufactured by Top Dog Custom Cages and tennis balls are donated by Wilson, Roehampton Club, and Winchester Racquets and Fitness. This innovative design is a celebration of the dog’s greatest love, playing fetch.

“We hope you enjoy Fetch as much as we do and that it brings you and your furry friend many happy moments,” Coffey Architects states. The design is a friendly reminder of the importance of having fun with dogs, expressing the joy and companionship of playing with them.
