The pet care industry is growing steadily, however, there hasn’t been any major innovations, except self-cleaning litter box for felines. California-Based Pet Startup is taking hold with its FluentPet Connect. It is a simple-to-use HexTile System with recordable sound buttons that lets pets communicate with humans. As a dog presses the button, it says the recorded phrase or word (food, play, outside, etc.), allowing to express themselves and be understood by humans.

This Wi-Fi-connected smart system allows pet owners to track, quantify, and understand feelings of their pets. In simple words, the Bluetooth-enabled buttons allow animals to send text messages when their humans are away from home.

Inspired by Christina Hunger’s work with her dog Stella, FluentPet Connect is a combination of HexTiles and recordable sound buttons that help you teach your dog to communicate. The pet communication uses cognitive science and academic research for functionality.

Each unit comprises a Connect Base that attaches to HexTiles. Each tile looks like a puzzle piece and has space for six buttons. You need to record the word in the button, attach it to the HexTiles and then train your dog for that specific command. There is option to connect as many HexTiles you want.

The FluentPet Hard-Top HexTiles are made of a combination of a hard-plastic top layer, a flexible EVA foam layer, and a non-slip rubber bottom layer. On the other hand, the Soft-Top HexTiles are made primarily out of EVA foam and also have a non-slip rubber bottom layer.

The FluentPet tiles and button system is developed by California-based cognitive scientist Leo Trottier in collaboration with the Canine AAC Test Pilots. It is designed to be flexible so you need not worry about accommodating big or small pets.

The FluentPet System is winner of CES Innovation Award 2023. You can pre-order the Connect Get Starter Kit for €160 (about $168) from the official website.
