Nozawa Onsen, one of the best ski resorts in Japan, captivates the attention of architect lovers for all the right reasons. Gondola House, designed by Japanese Architectural design studio Furuya Design serves as the focal point, apart from the charming hot springs and traditional inns dotting the village. The house is named after the exhilarating feeling of riding the Nagasaka Gondola near the site top.

Gondola House is an attractive dwelling and has a total floor area of 173.85 sqm. It showcases fascinating architecture style that connects Japanese architecture and cultural experience as one. With a welcoming structure that spans both inward and outward, the house effortlessly endeavours to blend into its surroundings especially during winter. With an inflow of high tourists visiting Nozawa Onsen Village each year, the house is manufactured out of expansion plans to cater to the growing number of foreign tourists at once.

Lying in close proximity to Nozawa Onsen Lodge designed by revered Japanese architect Takamasa Yoshizaka, the abode is an all-encompassing design and illustrates a relationship that is imagined to be that of a master and servant in Bonsai. The house spans three floors above the ground with a living room, dining area, kitchen and bathroom with furniture that fits just right.

Primarily made to absorb 352cm of vertical snow load, the house has an inconceivable egg-shape with slanted ceiling demonstrating effective construction without overshadowing the existing Nozawa Onsen Lodge, Nagano’s symbolic representation. The white exterior wall is made to blend in with the snowy landscape and create a mesmerizing view for onlookers.

The house is made with wood frame, brick, and partly reinforced concrete for a sturdy built. Multiple broad glass windows flush the house with fresh air and sunlight. It also becomes an easy passage for proper ventilation throughout the dwelling. One can catch breathtaking views of the beautiful surrounding from any corner of the house.

The interior is beautifully done that brings in tranquillity with aesthetics and warm choice of color palette. A couch, a separate dining space, colorful rugs and some lovely pendant lights adorn the entire space. A sturdy wooden ladder joins different levels of the house internally for safer access during harsh winter season. Gondola house is made with an intent to peacefully serve and accommodate large number of tourists that visit the place for its unparallel beauty and entertainment.
