Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant is a popular name in the home automation industry, and over again the company has introduced new capabilities with the latest update. Now it can trigger multiple tasks with single voice command, for example, in the morning when you are rushing to the bathroom, the command “Alexa, Turn on Relax” will automatically lower the blinds, dim the lights and play soothing spa music, all together for an ultimate bath. So in morning you just have to say “Good Morning” to start the pre-planned smart home schedule. You can ask it to change colors of smart lights from bright to warmer or white to blue and do a lot more.

Canada-based homebuilder Brookfield Residential collaborated with Amazon and a few other companies to create a smart home powered with Alexa voice assistant. The voice-activated smart home is showcased at the Avendale community in Northern Virginia. In this collaboration, Colorado-based IT company Qwinix added custom skills in the Alexa software. It includes the smart light control update that allows users to change colors of bulbs from Lifx, TP-Link and Philips Hue without extra efforts, with just a single spoken voice command it can make your smart light blue or green. Interesting point is that it can recognize commands for white-light tones such as “soft white” or “daylight” which are even unrecognizable for Siri.

With this smart home technology, Alexa has raised competition for the Google Home wireless speaker. According to CNet, this update also makes it compatible with color-changing bulbs controlled through SmartThings connected platform, so a wide number of users are going to benefit.
