The Berlin-based designer and architect Michael Hilgers, who specializes in space-saving furnishings for home, will be exhibiting his Minimal Home collection at IMM Cologne to be held on 15-21 January 2018. The key attraction would be Twofold wall shelf that transforms into a temporary desk with a slight push. Designed for German company Müller Möbelwerkstätten, it is a simple, compact and contemporary wall shelf that is made with multiplex plywood.

This transforming shelf is a minimalistic storage solution that uses no fittings such as hinges, flap holders or snaps to work. The entire transformation is dependent on a traditional wooden joinery technique that makes it work like a hinge in itself. It looks like a cube shelf when folded, and as you slide open, it becomes a small desk offering more space to keep things like a laptop, files, and magazines.

The Twofold wall shelf is perfect to keep your favorite books and magazines. However, it can also be used to display photo frames, mini planters, and other collectibles. If you think more purposefully, this fold-up and slide-down shelf can be a great mini work desk as well.
