Japanese studio Nendo in collaboration with renowned papermaking firm Taniguchi Aoya Washi has designed lightweight lamp dubbed Bi-color Washi that boasts dual colors on either side to perfectly scatter lighting into your living space. The papermaking firm created luminous 3D-molded lampshades using washi- a type of fibrous paper made using an elaborate process involving mulberry pulp and water.

According to the designer team,

Rather than pasting sheets of washi together to create forms, the company uses the same process to create beautiful seamless forms that are three-dimensional from the start.

The designer company dyed the lampshades in two steps to create different shades on their internal and external surfaces. Due to this dual tone experimentation the exterior of the lampshade is colored, whereas interior is paler to reflect more light. It is available in three different color variations- white, pink and blue; to blend in perfectly into any domestic or commercial setting. These lamps look extremely gorgeous when lit up, whilst their simple processing minimizes the manufacturing cost.

These lamps come in pendant as well as floor standing versions to enhance lighting and décor of any contemporary dwelling. Washi lamps will surely add a vibrant touch to your interior with its subtle and classy shades. Check out the images (below) of the Washi lamp and speak your heart out on its design after the jump.
