I am saying this because I just tripped over the Red Gecko TDX teardrop trailer on social media and I can’t help but extoll it. Designed by Cape Town-based startup Red Gecko, the teardrop trailer measures 12.6 feet long, which is a little bigger than Baluchon’s Nano tiny house and slightly smaller than the Volkswagen Beetle cabin on wheels.
Boasting an imported birch and spruce plywood body for natural insulation, the teardrop trailer is sheathed with Raptor lining which not only protects against scratches and damages but also minimizes the possibility of rotting (caused due to moisture), courtesy of its water-resistant finish. It’s not just the exterior, however, that left me dazzled. The trailer also features a gorgeous interior outfitted with wooden walls, storage cubbies, and a double foam mattress.
Speaking of the mattress, the trailer can accommodate a couple of people inside. In case you are traveling with a family and want to squeeze kids into the trailer, don’t worry, Red Gecko TDX has that figured out for you. All you need to do is mount up a two-person rooftop tent. Red Gecko has already reinforced the roof with steel for supporting a roof rack and tent. You can access the roof via fender steps.

Gone are the days when people used to light the fire with stones and cook their catch. The new-age teardrop trailers come accoutered with handsome kitchens, and Red Gecko TDX got one in its tailgate. Compact and highly functional, the kitchen is equipped with a couple of drawers with one housing a portable dual-burner stove, while the other stores utensils and nitty-gritty essentials.
Then we have some storage shelves, a full-width worktop, and plenty of other features that make the trailer an absolute peach. Not to mention, a 100-Ah battery, roll-out awning, and USB charging ports, which make this trailer stand out as an absolute beast both on and off the road. As of the towing is concerned, that shouldn’t be much trouble, this handsome trailer can be towed by a lighter SUV.
